Photographer Franziska Strauss, was born in 1984 in Cottbus, Germany.  In 2010, she received a Bachelor of Arts in Photography from the University Of Applied Sciences in Munich Germany.  Renowned for her fluid photographs of the human body in motion, in 2013, Franziska Franziska documented the New York based contemporary dance company, Galim Dance.  Franziska currently lives and works in Berlin.


Gallim Dance


Gallim Dance, a New York-based contemporary dance company, was founded in 2007.  The company performs, original work throughout the world, created by its artistic director and founder, Andrea Miller.  Since its founding, Gallim has quickly captured the attention of fellow artists, presenters, and audiences with its award-winningwork, ensemble of dancers, and a fearless physicality grounded by deep humanity which is expressed through the madness and joy of the imagination.

Additionally, the company provides NEA-recognized educational programming to dancers and non-dancers in its home studio in Brooklyn and beyond.  The company performs, for thousands of audiences annually, in premier venues including the Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York City Center, the Joyce Theater, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Spoleto Festival, White Bird, and Peak Performances Montclair University.


Andrea Miller


Andrea Miller is the founder, artistic director, and choreographer of New York-based company, Gallim Dance.  Best known for exploring movement as it relates to other forms of expression including theater, visual arts, music, and politics, Miller has developed a recognizable style, which includes extreme physicality, emotion and an exploration of the limits of the human body. In 2014, Miller wasnameda Guggenheim Fellow, by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, for demonstrating exceptional creative ability. 

Miller is devoted to dance education for dancers and non-dancers and has developed programs for Gallim Dance’s headquarters in Brooklyn, New York, as well as commissions for academic institutions such as Harvard University, the Juilliard School, Barnard College at Columbia University, New York University, University of Utah, Montclair State University, The University of Michigan, Mount Holyoke, and Wesleyan University.  She is a founding collaborator of Movement Invention Project and resident choreographer at Dancewave.
